Coeur System
This page contains general information about Coeurs, how they work, what affects them, and abilities that are off-limits.
CŒUR
Cœur refers to the special power bestowed upon a selective population of humans, who are now referred to as Users. A Cœur gives birth to the unique ability within a User, and its strength comes from the individual’s psyche. The term Cœur itself means the heart in French to represent the fact that it is the strength that comes from the heart.
From recent researches, the existing Cœurs are split into 4 types of categories: Somatic, Technical, Manipulation, and Parapsychology. (More info on Ability Types below.) Each User should only be capable of one ability, which they may develop in ways they wish to utilize it. Coeur abilities are naturally hereditary, but there are rumors they may appear in an individual as a result of illegal experimentation. Otherwise, if a Coeur User happen to naturally appear in a family of non-Users, it means the family once had a Coeur User somewhere down the line of their ancestry.
While genetics may influence the type of Coeur a descendant receives, it would not mean the child will definitely end up with exactly the same ability as one of the parents. The combinations of DNA may result to producing a completely new fusion of ability within the child, or even awaken an extremely recessive one from somewhere down the line of either family side’s ancestry. Another aspect a child’s Coeur might inherit from the parents may be their strength to control their ability initially, or even how early they are activated in their life, albeit not always. Ultimately, genetics do not dictate the shaping or development of the child’s Coeur.
Following the principles taught at Shinnou Academy, there should be no discrimination between Users and non-Users. Those bestowed with Cœurs should learn to control and develop their abilities without inconveniencing the society, and those without should not be inclined to heavily depend upon Users. Discrimination will merely destroy the harmony, serving as an irony towards the loving name of such gift.
CONTRECŒUR
Contrecoeur is the term used for the effect of “backlash”. There are definitely a limit to how much an individual can use their Coeur actively. The human body and mind could only endure so much demands, and with untrained vessel, a mortal will naturally be consumed by a supernatural power.
When Users overexerts in using their ability, contrecoeurs will affect them in numerous ways, which differ from person to person. The effects of contrecoeurs will reflect the User’s Coeur, yet even if two Users have the same identical Coeur, they won’t necessarily suffer the same kind of contrecoeurs.
STATUS
Each student will be assigned a parameter to map their Coeur status, which the main characters should develop over time.

This status is especially important in numerous areas, such as when faced with dire situations that requires emergency and immediate action while there seem to be limited options.
- Control is a significant parameter to assess an individual’s mastery of their own ability, playing the most significant roles in suppressing their own power from overflowing or causing unintended accidents. This is not only important for those around you, but also for your own safety.
- Stamina measures the User’s endurance and duration of their conscious use of their power. The higher their stamina, the longer they can withhold active use before contrecoeur could begin kicking in. Having higher stamina may also prevent the worst effects of contrecoeur to take place.
- Perception could be said as one of the least recognized importance among the young minded, which is often an err for them in the future. This status is the essence of understanding your own ability’s laws and nature. The more one deepens this perception, the more vast their possessed skills’ effectiveness would become.
- Synergy may not seem like it’s important for those who prefers going solo, but one ought to learn that this skill is especially emphasized in the academy. This is the skill thaat promotes harmony between you and the people around you. However, in terms of combat, this parameter is the highest requirement for you and your team’s survival. The higher this parameter is, the more seamless your ability’s synchronicity with others becomes.
Ability Groups/Blacklisted Abilities
Somatic
Somatic type consists of Cœurs that involves the enhancement or alterations of the body and/or its sensory receptors, also referred to amplifications and metamorphosis. This includes the forming of partial or full appearance of the body into animal or object-like properties, or merely activating stronger sensory such as vision, taste, feel, hearing, or smell. Abilities that directly involves physical contacts and the mimicking of animal strengths also fall under this category.

Technical
Technical type covers the areas of Cœurs that involve the innovative scientific and creation abilities. The scientific variety includes the free control of innovative, scientific processes such as speeding up chemical reactions or multiplying the mass of aerial gravity. Meanwhile, creation abilities include conjuring biological or metaphysical existences out of one’s body or mind, painting or other hand crafts.

Manipulation
Manipulation type refers to all abilities that manipulate certain elemental properties or either tangible or intangible matter in any way they will, such as conjuring them, moving them, increasing them, shrinking them, and many more.

Parapsychology Coeurs, a.k.a. The paranormal type, refers to ESP and psychokinetic abilities that usually involve the sixth sense. This category also covers abilities that are on the spiritual, psychic, or intuitive side that allows its users to tap into abilities such the few examples listed below.

Manipulation
Manipulation type refers to all abilities that manipulate certain elemental properties or either tangible or intangible matter in any way they will, such as conjuring them, moving them, increasing them, shrinking them, and many more.
Examples:
- Pyrokinesis - to create, control and manipulate also generate fire, flame and heat.
- Earth Mimicry - to have a body made up of earth or earthen substance.
- Bubble Manipulation - a combination of Air and Water manipulation, allowing the user to manipulate bubbles and foam.
- Needle Manipulation - to shape and manipulate pins, nails, and other similar sharp object.
Parapsychology
Parapsychology Coeurs, a.k.a. The paranormal type, refers to ESP and psychokinetic abilities that usually involve the sixth sense. This category also covers abilities that are on the spiritual, psychic, or intuitive side that allows its users to tap into abilities such the few examples listed below.

Blacklisted Abilities
Abilities that allow the user to take over another person’s mind/body.

- High-speed regeneration that renders you invulnerable.
Other abilities.
- Coeur Replication - coeur replication can be debatable as long as the mun makes sense out of their abilities and is able to make it work in the setting within coeur's laws. Coeurs are literally manifestations of the character's individuality, hence it would be pretty hard for others to copy the ability or use it if they don't understand that person's state of mind/heart! So if they copy a coeur they don't understand from a person they don't know, there will be dire consequences.
Attributes/Party/Limiters
ATTRIBUTES
Attributes are 3 significant properties that will come into play with the Cœur developments and party system. The 3 attributes are Defense, Offense, and Support, and they will be assigned to each skills, a person’s Forte, and the party roles in a group.
A person’s Cœur ability can be developed into a wide variety of use. One merely needs to be creative in finding new ways of utilizing their power. At the beginning of the first year of High School, a student will be expected to have a set of 2 skills for their ability. An ability may seem very limited at first, but that is only because the User has yet to realize any other methods to utilize it. Remember there are no bounds to your abilities as long as it is within its own laws. New skill slots will be granted to a student upon their completion of further Heart Rank Unlocking quests.
One of the 3 attributes is also applicable as an individual’s Forte. A person’s forte signifies the method they find most efficient and effective to utilize their Cœur. If they initially specialized their Cœur in support skills, eg. healing, boosting speed, it is also possible to produce a different outcome merely by adjusting the process of activating the Cœur, eg. causing lethargy, or slowing motions. Having a certain forte does not restrict a person from having skills of other attributes. For example, a Support Forte person may develop an offensive or defensive skill. They may have less efficiency compared to people with defense or offense fortes, but it doesn’t mean they can’t polish what they have.
The strengths of your Forte and Skills are directly affected by the Heart Rank, i.e. offense skills pumps more damage, defense skills has increased durability, support skills gives more effective boosts or recovery.
PARTY SYSTEM
Party System will come to use somewhere down the storyline, where there will be quests requiring students to be assigned into groups of 5 members. The party will consist of 1 defense, 2 offense, and 2 support roles. The assigned members must decide their party roles among themselves. People may prefer to stick with the role that corresponds with their forte, but they may need to fill in roles they aren’t as familiar with. This is especially encouraged if they happen to possess any skill, however minor, that may prove useful for the role, in order to polish the flexibility of their Cœur, and their synchronicity of teamwork.
LIMITERS/INHIBITORS
Limiters are commonly used by students in the academy in order to keep their Coeurs in check. These are mainly for those with overflowing power or uncontrollable abilities, helping them avoid being a danger to themselves and to their fellow students and Users. In some rare cases, limiters are equipped on new born babies whose coeur surfaced the moment they came out of the mother's womb. There have been horrifying past incidents of new born babies who died from contrecoeur prior to the advancement of research on limiters.
Limiters can only be turned off or removed by the Principal, Alpha Rampaca, and the teachers! As for how the limiters are made... They're made from Rampaca wool and shaped into a functional and efficient limiter by the Principal himself. The appearance of the limiter can be made to fit the User's taste as well!
